Neckline Pattern (add hem allowance, print on 8.5×11 paper)
Basic shaping of a neckline and five methods of finishing a neckline that range from a simple hem to facings. Applicable across time periods. Lecture with examples. Great for beginners!
A Medieval Tunic Pattern
Take your own measurements and learn how to create a rectangular construction tunic based on the Bocksten Man tunic. While the original garment was for men from the 14th century, this simple tunic works for both men and women and can work for some earlier time periods, as well.
Period Wire Rings
Learn two styles of wire rings in this hands on make-and-take class. The first, a simple spiral ring, is found throughout history. The second, a looped style, has been found to be both Romano-British as well as Viking. Tight pinching and twisting of the wrists is required. Tools are provided.
Historical Fine Metal Soldering
A survey of two very different types of fine metal soldering, based heavily on historical sources, with a comparison to modern soldering. We also look at the science of soldering. When I teach this in my home, there’s an added hands-on component where students have the ability to solder a simple silver ring. There is a small fee for materials.
Roman Beaded Bracelet/Necklace
Learn how to make a simple bracelet or necklace (time depending) with wire and beads. This style was exceedingly common in Imperial Rome. We’ll make a simple hook and eye closure. Tools, wire, and a selection of beads provided. Feel free to bring your own beads.
